Missions
"...you shall be My witnesses..." Acts 1:8
Jesus said "but you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all ,Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth." (Acts 1:8, NASB)
Jesus did not say in this verse, "Go into Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria and the remotest part of the earth," but, "", you shall be witnesses in [all these places]." In other words, as we go, we should tell. An excellent example of this was demonstrated by the people of the early Thessalonica church. "For the word of the Lord has sounded forth from you, not only in Macedonia and Achaia, but also in every place your faith toward God has gone forth." (1 Thessalonians 1:8, NASB)
Hot Springs Baptist Church views missions as witnessing to people "across the street" as well as to people "across the sea." The Missions Development Committee has developed a strategy which will help us meet Pastor Manley's challenge. The basic concept is to organize mission activities within our Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria, and the Remotest Part of the Earth and then provide opportunities for people to go to these fields and tell as they go. This strategy is constantly being expanded, revised and improved under the leadership of the Holy Spirit.
Role of the Missions Development Committee
The Missions Development Committee (MDC) is a standing committee of the church. It is charged with coordinating and promoting the Great Commission within the body of HSBC. This includes local, state, national, and international mission activities. We have joined with the Southern Baptist Convention's Acts 1:8 Challenge initiative which partners us with the Central Baptist Association, the Arkansas Baptist Convention, the North American Mission Board, and the International Mission Board. This partnership provides an effective way to identify and participate in challenging mission activities. The "flag logo" on the page header illustrates our strategy - as we go (into Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria, or the Remotest Part of the earth) we are to tell the story of Jesus. The Committee also sets special missions offerings goals and administers the Christian Based Ministries category in the church budget. Please feel free to contact one of the committee members or e-mail us if you have questions or comments about any aspect of the HSBC Missions Program.
